Transportation by rivers in Ukraine will reduce the burden on the railway infrastructure
A representative of COFCO Agri believes that river logistics has great potential and, therefore, the government should consider this type of transportation, since it can reduce the load on the railway.

For now, the railway is reasonably considered a weak link in the country’s transport infrastructure. It is obvious, since investments in this infrastructure over the past two decades have been insignificant.
Therefore, the government should direct its actions towards reducing transportations by rail and try to develop river infrastructure. In addition, the project on the development of inland river transport is already under development for more than two years.
A representative of this company also believes that the transport problem will still be relevant in the short term and even in the medium term, hence the main task of the government and business today is cooperation in this area and launching projects to reduce the severity of the situation.
In Ukraine, it is planned to increase the volume of cargo transportation by rivers, which will help reduce the load on the railway infrastructure and save on logistics costs. Currently, the share of transportation by rivers is only about 1%, while in developed countries this figure reaches 10-15%. An increase in river traffic can significantly improve Ukraine’s transport infrastructure and increase its competitiveness in world markets.
In addition, river transportation is a more environmentally friendly way to transport goods, which can improve the environmental situation in the country and contribute to its sustainable development.
