To grow more profitable crops in Kazakhstan, an irrigation system is needed

The price of the main crop in Kazakhstan’s agriculture, wheat, has tended to decline in recent years. However, for the cultivation of more profitable crops, a system of irrigated lands is needed. The new program for the development of the agricultural sector includes the restoration of irrigated lands that have not been used for a long time for their intended purpose because of a technical malfunction.

Irrigated land occupies 1.4 million hectares, while about half of the land is no longer irrigated, as the infrastructure is destroyed. During the preparation of the program, the analysis showed that the introduction of these lands will give an opportunity to increase the profit from irrigated areas by 600 billion tenge per year. The projected profit is 800 billion tenge.

Despite the change in the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture, plans to restore irrigated land are still in force. Preparatory work is carried out in all regions to implement this program.

Kazakhstan is a major producer of agricultural products, but most crops are grown without the use of an irrigation system. However, some crops, such as cotton and rice, can be significantly more profitable with the use of artificial irrigation. The irrigation system allows the regulation of soil moisture, which promotes increased yield and product quality. Additionally, it enables the cultivation of crops in areas where it would be impossible without an additional source of water. However, implementing an irrigation system requires significant investment, so it is important to conduct an analysis of economic efficiency and choose optimal options. Overall, the use of an irrigation system can become a key factor in increasing the profitability of agricultural crops in Kazakhstan and enhancing competitiveness in the global market.
