The dominant crop in the production of cereals is wheat, even taking into account all efforts made to reduce the area of crops assigned to this culture and also, taking into account the government program whose main goal is diversification of crops for other grains and oilseeds. However, despite the fact that the area allocated for wheat crops decreases every year, the volume of the crop remains at the same level, due to the increase in the yield of this crop. Consequently, despite all efforts, wheat has always been the dominant culture in the production structure.

As of July 1, the amount of grain in the bins of Kazakhstan was slightly more than 5.19 million tons. Of which wheat is 4.58 million tons, or 88.3%. Last year, the amount of wheat was 87.4%, and in 2016 and 2015 this indicator was about the same level.

The most disturbing factor is also the fact that consumption and export of this culture is much slower than the export and consumption of other cultures.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, at the beginning of the 2018 season, 88.3% of all plantings in the country were occupied by wheat. This is because wheat is the main crop in Kazakhstan and occupies a large part of the land area. However, such a high concentration of plantings in one crop may pose some risks, such as vulnerability to weather conditions or plant diseases. In addition, this may affect the country’s economy, as dependence on one crop may lead to instability in exports and price fluctuations in the market. Therefore, experts advise farmers and agricultural producers to pay more attention to crop diversification and seek new opportunities for production development.
