In the bins of Kazakhstan, the amount of grain is 15% lower than last year
As of March of the current year, 10.3 million tons of grain and leguminous crops are in the bins of Kazakhstan, whereas last year the volume of grain in storage was 12 million tons.
Such information was received from the Statistical Committee of Kazakhstan.
As of the beginning of this month, the amount of wheat in the bins was 8.25 million tons, the amount of barley was 1.25 million tons. Also, in the bins there are such crops as rye, oats, buckwheat and millet in the amount of 10.6 thousand tons, 166 thousand tons, 56.3 thousand tons and 10.5 thousand tons, respectively.
The grain harvest is one of the key factors in Kazakhstan’s economy. However, as a result of the 2018 harvest, the amount of grain decreased by 15% in 2019. This could be a serious challenge for the country’s economy as grain is one of Kazakhstan’s main export goods. The decrease in harvest could lead to a worsening economic situation in regions connected with grain production. According to experts, the unfavorable weather conditions and the lack of funds to support agriculture contributed to the decrease in harvest. Nevertheless, Kazakhstan can increase its competitiveness in the global grain market if it continues to develop the production of quality grain and improves its technologies and cultivation methods.
