99% of sown areas for sunflower was harvested
As of mid-November, Ukrainian farmers harvested sunflower from 99% of sown areas, which equals 5.88 million hectares of land allocated for sowing sunflower. Such data is provided by online project “Harvest online”.
To date, forecasts for the area allocated for sunflower are equal to 5.96 million hectares.
Also, as of November 17, it is known that corn was harvested from the area of 3.6 million hectares, and the crop from this area reached a mark of 18.5 million tons, while the average yield was 5.2 t/ha, which is by 1.03 t/ha less than in the previous year.
Soybean was harvested from the area of 1.9 million hectares, which corresponds to 94% of the forecasted area. The yield of this crop was 3.6 million tons, and the average yield reached 1.92 t/ha, which is 0.36 t/ha less than in the previous year.
Such areas as Khmelnitsky (where the average yield was 6.13 t/ha), Vinnitsa (where the average yield was 5.75 t/ha), Sumy (where the average yield was 5.71 t/ha), Chernigov (where the average yield was 5.35 t/ha), Lvov (where the average yield was 4.95 t/ha) and Ivano-Frankivsk (where the average yield reached 4.92 t/ha).
For Ukraine, sunflower is one of the key agricultural crops. According to statistics, in 2020, sunflower was grown on an area of more than 5 million hectares, which yielded more than 16 million tons of crops. Sunflower oil is one of the main export commodities of Ukraine, which underlines its economic importance.
Modern cultivation technologies, including the use of hybrid varieties and innovative processing methods, can increase yields and product quality. In addition, the expansion of sunflower production has a positive effect on the development of rural infrastructure and the creation of new jobs.
The prospects for the development of the industry include both an increase in production and exports, and diversification of production into other products, including biofuels. But in order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to continue work to improve the quality of products and improve infrastructure in rural areas.
Thus, the sunflower harvest is of great importance for Ukraine and has great prospects for the further development of the industry.
