In Ukraine, the sowing of spring crops began

In two regions of Ukraine, the sowing of spring crops has already begun, namely in Kherson and Nikolayev regions.

Such information was provided by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The report says that as of April 2, 4 thousand hectares of barley and 300 hectares of peas were sown in the Kherson region, while in the Nikolayev region only 600 hectares of barley were sown.

In 2018, the area allocated for agricultural crops will reach a level of 27.2 million hectares. It should be noted that in 2017, the area allocated for agricultural crops was the same. At the end of March, agricultural producers were provided with 100% of the seeds, which is 638 thousand tons, 91% of the PPP (plant protection products), which is 27.4 thousand tons and 81% of the fuel, which is 326 thousand tons.

According to the Deputy Minister, 995 thousand tons of fertilizers are needed to conduct the spring sowing campaign, while at the end of March there were 980 thousand tons, which is 98% of the planned amount.

It should be recalled that import duties on Russian fertilizers have been raised to almost 43%.

Spring crops planting season in Ukraine started in early April and will continue until the end of May. During this period, farmers sow various crops such as barley, oats, wheat, corn, and others. The choice of crops depends on many factors, including climatic conditions, soil condition, seed availability, and others. Spring crops play an important role in Ukraine’s economy as they occupy a large part of arable land and are the main sources of income for agricultural producers. Moreover, growing spring crops contributes to increasing food production and exports of agricultural products.
