In the current year grain transhipment in Ukrainian sea ports will grow by 1 million tons

In 2018, the forecasted quantity of grain transhipped in the seaports is 40.1 million tons, which is almost 1 million tons more than in the previous year. It should be recalled that in the previous year the amount of grain transhipped in the seaports was 39.2 million tons.

Such information was provided by the head of AMPU.

In the current MY, Ukraine is on the 5th place among all grain producers in the world. The volume of grain production is 62 million tons. In addition, Ukraine ranks 4th among the countries exporting grain crops. And most importantly, most of the products are sent for export via seaports.

The biggest amount of grain is transhipped in the port of Nikolaev (9.1 million tons), followed by the port of Yuzhnuy and the port of Chernomorsk, with transhipment volumes of 8.7 million tons and 8.1 million tons respectively. And the last leader in this group is port of Odessa (7.7 million tons).

According to forecasts, this year the volume of grain transshipment in Ukrainian seaports will increase by 1 million tons and reach 43 million tons. Such growth in transshipment volumes may become a record in recent years and contribute to the increase of Ukraine’s export revenues. However, there are also risks associated with possible logistics and infrastructure problems in seaports. This can negatively affect the timing and quality of grain transshipment, as well as lead to a decrease in the competitiveness of Ukrainian grain in the global markets.
