According to official information from the Statistical Committee in the current MY the flax harvest reached 933.5 thousand tons, which is an absolute record. This figure exceeds the last season by 37% (last year it was collected 683.3 thousand tons).

The contribution to the increased harvest was the expansion of acreage from 0.87 million hectares to 1.1 million hectares, as well as an increase in yield from 0.8 tons per hectare to 0.87 tons per hectare.

During this period, 209 thousand tons of flax were exported. This figure exceeds the figure of the previous year by 46%.

The main importers of flax during the reporting period were Belgium (36 thousand tons) and Poland (slightly more than 13 thousand tons).

Kazakhstan is one of the world’s largest producers of flax, and in 2018, a high harvest of this crop was obtained. This led to a 50% increase in flax exports compared to the previous year. Increased export volumes can become an important factor in the development of Kazakhstan’s economy and strengthening its position in the global market. Additionally, this success can serve as a stimulus for increasing flax production in the future. However, there is a risk of oversaturation of the global flax market, which could lead to a decline in prices and a deterioration of the competitiveness of Kazakh exports.
