Exports of barley from Kazakhstan will decrease due to small volumes of feed wheat for the 2020 season
In 20/21, Kazakhstan expects a decrease in barley exports to 950 thousand tons (1.4 million tons in 2019/2020, and more than 1.7 million tons in 18/19).
According to the director of LLP «VKZ Agro», the main reason for the decline in exports is the decrease in share of feed wheat in harvest of season 2020. Since barley is the main substitute for feed wheat, which is very scarce this season. Accordingly, a decrease in barley exports from Ukraine and an increase in prices for it are expected.
This season, Iran and China will not have such a strong influence on the price of barley, due to the fact that they will occupy the second position. But note that the increase in export deliveries of Kazakhstan barley to China is expected to be up to 220 thousand tons, instead of the usual 50 thousand tons (in 2019 and 2018).
