In 2017, the import of barley seeds to Ukraine for sowing increased

During the 12 months of 2017, the import of barley seeds for sowing increased by 38% compared to the figures of 2016.

The volume of import of barley seeds for sowing in 2017 was 754 tons, whereas in 2016 the imports volume was only 546 tons. The main supplier of barley seeds to Ukraine was the EU countries.

The key criterion that distinguishes imported seeds is that they are elite or superelite, while reproductive seeds were almost not imported.

According to experts, the main reason for this is that in Ukraine the supply of seeds of this type is not sufficient, due to the lack of necessary capacities for the production of such seeds. To date, this is one of the main problems of this industry.

Experts also say that the supply in the market is sufficient, and that many breeding companies offer different sorts of seeds, depending on needs of farmers. Obviously, the greatest demand for seeds is a good yield, and it is such sorts that foreign breeding companies offer. It is due to the strong competition in the seed market between domestic and foreign breeding companies that the agrarians of Ukraine now receive good offers, as well as the best service and support of specialists.

In 2017, there was a significant increase in imports of barley seeds to Ukraine, which opens up prospects and expands the potential for sowing this valuable grain crop. Barley is one of the important cereal crops used for food production and the brewing industry. Growing imports of barley seeds indicate increased interest in quality varieties and hybrids, as well as the desire of Ukrainian producers to increase the yield and quality of their barley. This provides opportunities for the development of the agricultural sector, strengthening the market position and increasing the export of barley.Analyze trends, study new varieties and hybrids to successfully exploit the potential barley sector in Ukraine.
