Ukrzaliznytsia plans to modernize the fleet of grain hoppers

In 2018 Ukrzaliznytsia plans to renew the fleet of grain hoppers. The company plans to purchase up to 500 new units.

Such information was provided by the Director of Economics and Finance of Ukrzaliznytsia.

It is also said in his statement that during the period from January to February slightly more than 6 million tons of grain were transported by rail, which is 16% more than the figure of the previous year. Also, during this period it was managed to reduce the period of idle time when loading grain hoppers by 12%.

It should be recalled that the company’s plans also include the development of a new grain hopper project based on its own wagon-building plants. The advantage of the new model will be a greater capacity, as well as a higher level of protection against grain theft.

By the end of 2020, Ukrzaliznytsya plans to renovate its grain hopper fleet. As part of the renovation program, new wagons with higher carrying capacity and improved technical characteristics will be purchased. Renovation of the grain hopper fleet is an important step in the development of railway transport in Ukraine and will allow for an increase in the volume of grain transportation on domestic and international markets. However, experts also point to the need for infrastructure improvement and increased efficiency of railway transport as a whole. Renovation of the grain hopper fleet is one of the measures aimed at developing transport infrastructure and increasing the competitiveness of Ukraine’s economy.
