In 2018/19 MY in Ukraine production and export supplies of forage barley and corn may increase.

Such information was provided by APK-Inform with reference to the speech at the Middle East Grain Congress 2018.

Experts believe that in the next marketing year in Ukraine it will be possible to produce about 30 million tons of corn, while this year it was produced 28.3 million tons. Also, experts forecast export volumes at 24 million tons, while exports in the current marketing year is estimated at 18.5 million tons.

In addition, analysts believe that in the next marketing year, we will observe a change in the geography of exports. Thus, corn supplies to countries such as Iran and Korea will decrease, however exports to EU countries, on the contrary, will increase.

Also, experts believe that the production of barley in the next MY will be 8.7 million tons, while in the current MY it was produced 8.4 million tons. This can cause an increase in exports. This season, the export potential is estimated at 4.2 million tons, while in the next MY the export volume are forecasted at 4.5 million tons.

It should be recalled that during the 12 months of 2017, 19.39 million tons of corn was exported from Ukraine, and the sum of export was 2.99 billion dollars.

In the next marketing year, Ukraine can expect an increase in the production of forage barley and corn due to the expansion of sowing areas and the improvement of cultivation technologies. This could lead to an increase in export indicators and strengthen Ukraine’s position in the global grain market. However, there may be risks associated with changes in weather conditions, plant diseases, and competition from other producers. To ensure stable growth in the production of forage barley and corn in Ukraine, it is necessary to develop agricultural infrastructure, attract investments, and improve cultivation technologies.
