Drought in Europe lowers crop forecasts this season
A lack of rainfall in many parts of Europe in mid-spring poses a threat to agriculture and could affect global food security.
According to the latest data from the European Drought Observatory, a number of regions, including Poland, Ukraine, Greece, the Balkans, Sweden, Ireland, Germany and other countries, have been on “alert” status (orange category) since mid-March. The southeastern coast of Spain is already on a critical red alert.
According to Andrea Toretti, the observatory’s lead scientist, the main cause of the drought is the lack of rainfall combined with abnormally warm weather. Last year, Europe recorded its hottest March on record.
Storage quality is key
With declining yields and volatile markets, the issue of effective storage and logistics for grain production is becoming increasingly important. High-quality elevator equipment plays a critical role in maintaining grain quality, minimizing losses, and ensuring uninterrupted supply to processing plants.
Modern solutions such as conveyor systems, elevators, grain cleaners, dryers, and silos allow agricultural producers to optimize the processes of receiving, storing, and shipping. This is especially important for crops with high storage requirements, such as rapeseed.
In today’s market conditions, investing in reliable elevator equipment is not only a way to reduce losses, but also a strategic advantage for farmers who want to remain competitive.
