Wheat exports from Ukraine decreased by 8%

Since the beginning of the current MY and as of April 9, more than 13.3 million tons of wheat were supplied to foreign markets from Ukraine, which is 8% less than the figure for 17/18 MY. Volumes of shipped food wheat reached 8.6 million tons, which is 8% higher than last season, but the decrease in supply of feed wheat amounted to 24% (export volume was 4.7 million tons).

This information was obtained from the State Food Service.

It should be noted that during the current MY, in total, 38.6 million tons of grain crops were exported from Ukraine. Among which, barley supplies amounted to 3.2 million tons, which is 20% less than the figure of the previous year, and corn supplies reached 21.4 million tons, which is 67% more than the last year figure.

In addition, it should be added that the volume of oilseeds shipments in the current year decreased by 13% and amounted to 3.9 million tons.

In 2019, the export of wheat from Ukraine decreased by 8%, which was due to a number of factors such as unfavorable weather conditions, reduced crop yields, and competition on the global grain market. However, Ukraine remains one of the world’s largest wheat exporters and meets demand on European and global markets. Overall, grain exports from Ukraine remain an important component of its economy, so the country’s authorities are taking measures to support the agricultural sector and improve conditions for its functioning.
