Durum exports from Kazakhstan could be reduced to 0.45 million tons
During the current marketing season, exports of durum are expected to be at a level of 0.45 million tons, which is lower than last season’s figure by more than 200 thousand tons.
Within 5 months only 132 thousand tons of durum were shipped abroad.
According to the expert, this situation has arisen due to the low quality of products, which was caused by adverse weather conditions, as well as the pricing policy of importing countries, which was affected by the increase in the transportation cost.
To improve the current situation, experts recommend using fewer breeds, forming bathes for export at elevators and shipping durum strictly in accordance with the quality of the breed.
In addition, it was noted that over the past five years, the main countries importing this product have been Italy (with 50% of import share), Turkey (with 24% of import share), as well as such countries as Russia, Sweden, Tunis, Tajikistan, etc.
Durum wheat is an important export commodity for Kazakhstan, but this year exports may decrease to 0.45 million tonnes. This could be due to the slowdown in durum wheat production in Kazakhstan and increased competitive pressure from other producers in the global market. The reduction in durum wheat exports could have a negative impact on the economy of Kazakhstan and its producers. However, there is potential to increase production and improve the quality of durum wheat in Kazakhstan, which could help to restore exports.
