Kazakhstan topped the rating of Altai grain importers in May

The first place among the TOP-10 grain importers of the Altai region is occupied by Kazakhstan, which overtook China (II place) by importing almost 3 times bigger amount of grain (information was provided by the regional branch of the Grain Quality Assessment Center).

In Russia, Kazakh companies bought 5207 tons of grain, Chinese buyers purchased 1860 tons. The TOP-10 countries also include the following countries: Belarus (530 tons), Uzbekistan (338 tons), Afghanistan (338 tons), Iran (319 tons), Mongolia (254 tons), Kyrgyzstan (246 tons), North Korea (203 tons) and Tajikistan (202 tons).

In May, the Altai region exported almost 10.000 tons and 8.000 tons were sold on the domestic market.

The most demanded crops of this regions are buckwheat, wheat, flour, oatmeal, sunflower, rapeseed and corn.

Kazakhstan became the leader in imports of Altai grain in May, ahead of China and Iran. This is due to an increase in demand for grain in local markets and a decrease in crop production in the country. However, this could also lead to higher grain prices and a deterioration in trade relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, which is the main importer of Altai grain. On the other hand, this opens up opportunities for the development of grain exports from Russia to Kazakhstan. Follow Com3s.com for grain export news.
