Export of sunflower oil from Ukraine has reached record levels, China is the leader
During the period from September to November 20/21, Ukraine exported 1.6 million tons of sunflower oil, which is a record. During the same period last year the amount of exported oil was 16% less.
In November, export volumes reached its highest value and amounted to 757 thousand tons, which is 32% more than in November 2019. This value has influenced the export volumes of 20/21 MY the most. The amount of oil supplied to China reached 313 thousand tons (more than 41% of total sunflower oil exports in November 2020).
Consequently, since the beginning of the season, China (32%) has become the largest importer of Ukrainian sunflower oil. India has become the second largest importer with import share of 29% and the EU countries took the third place (22%).
Due to the reduction in production and processing of sunflower seeds, the export of Ukrainian sunflower oil in 20/21 MY is forecasted to be 5.8 million tons, not 6.63 tons as in the previous MY, which is 13% less.
