More than half of oilseeds are stored in the North Kazakhstan region
The largest amount of oilseeds is stored in the North Kazakhstan region.
As of October 1, there were 5.53 million tons of oilseeds in the bins of NKR.
It should also be recalled that as of the indicated date, there are only 10.3 million tons of oilseeds stored in Kazakhstan.
This year there was an increase in the number of areas allocated for oilseeds by 36.5% compared to 2017. This increase is due to the diversification program issued by the government.
In total, 4.2 million hectares were allotted for crops this year, which is 2% less than in the previous year. 2.8 million hectares were allocated for grain crops and 0.97 million hectares for oilseeds.
The northern region of Kazakhstan is one of the most important centers of oilseed crop production in the country. More than half of all oilseed crop seeds grown in Kazakhstan are stored in a gene bank located in the northern region. This ensures the preservation of a rich gene pool of oilseed crops and provides an opportunity to use it for breeding and improving the quality of agricultural products. The seeds stored in the bank can also be used to restore oilseed crop production in the event of catastrophic events that could negatively impact the crop yield. In turn, oilseed crop production is an important factor for the economic development of the northern region of Kazakhstan.
